This article is written from a biblical perspective. First, we must realize the truth that God, the Creator of the universe and all that is in it, is sovereign. Absolutely nothing happens in His creation without Him causing it or allowing it. Second, we must realize that, while God is a very loving God, He hates sin and judges sinful men and nations that will not repent. The Bible is replete with these facts. Two of the most widely known examples of this are the destruction of everything on the earth by the flood in the days of Noah. (Only eight people out of millions were considered righteous by God and saved in the ark). The other example is the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah by fire from heaven. God told Abraham that He would not destroy those two wicked cities if there were only ten righteous people in them.

What were the prevailing conditions just prior to God's judgment in these two cases? In the days of Noah prior to the universal flood "The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become" (Gen. 6:5), and "the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence" (Gen. 6:11).

Beginning with the condition of the people in Noah's day, let us compare that to the situation in America today. Jesus said as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be when He returns---wickedness and violence will be prevalent (Mt. 24:37). America has never been more wicked than it is today. Pornography is readily available in convenience stores, on the Internet, in the movies, television commercial advertising, front covers of magazines at grocery store check-out counters, et al. Not too many years ago it was illegal to send pornographic material through the U. S. Mail.

There are more than a million unborn children murdered every year in America. Very few young women or men who graduate from high school are virgins. The U. S. Government has even sent pamphlets to every household in America telling people how to have "safe sex" rather than to say that fornication and adultery are sins.

Young children and older youth are allowed to watch repeated acts of violence on TV and videos. Many of their games and books are filled with shooting and killing and bloody violence. Children are shooting children and adults in the schools. (The sociologists and psychologists haven't figured out why little Johnny would do such a thing.) The prisons are full of criminals convicted of violent crimes. Medical doctors who have taken the Hippocratic oath perform a million and a half violent crimes every year against unborn children. (Maybe pulling an unborn baby half way out of the mother, cutting into the skull and sucking its brains out isn't considered violent. Illegal drug use and prescription drug abuse is widespread. Drunken orgies and parties are commonplace throughout the land. The satanic, violence-oriented rock music and country-western music with themes of adultery, drinking, immorality and divorce are played in virtually all the shopping malls, doctors' offices, restaurants and music-on-hold over business telephones. These entities are giving American consumers what they want.

Women are not keepers of the home as God intended. They pursue careers and leave their little children in the hands of the so-called day care centers. They love their jobs and money more than their children.

Concerning Sodom (from which the term "sodomy" comes, but is now rarely used), the city was filled with the abominable sin of homosexuality (Gen. 19:4-5). But even though that unbelievably wicked city deserved and received God's judgment, Jesus said that the people of a city that rejects the Gospel (the message to repent of your sins and receive Jesus Christ as your Savior) will be worse off on the Day of Judgment than the people of Sodom (Luke 10:10-12), even though all of them will suffer unimaginable eternal torment in the Lake of Fire.

Sodomy, in the eyes of God, is still an abomination. It wasn't too many years ago that this perversion was considered a crime in America and people were sent to prison for committing homosexual acts. But in America the liberal perverts in the legislative and judicial systems decided that sodomy is not a crime and will prosecute employers and others for discriminating against them. The same state or local governments, that once put these perverts in prison, now will issue parade permits to block the streets so that they can march with their signs and placards flaunting their sin. San Francisco and New York City are known world-wide for being havens for homosexuals. (It is not politically correct to call homosexuals Sodomites or homosexuals. According to "the powers that be" in America homosexuals should be called "gays" and "lesbians." Also, you should call fornication "having sex" and adultery "having an affair" and call drunkards "alcoholics.")

One well-known Christian teacher said, after researching the sin of homosexuality, that when a nation gets to the point that they are indifferent about this particular sin, God's judgment is sure; it is just a matter of time. In other words, when America decided that Sodomy was not a sin, and that the homosexuals have a right to live that kind of "lifestyle" even if we don't prefer that ourselves, and protect their "rights" and even prosecute those who discriminate against them in employment, etc., then we have passed the point of no return---God's judgment is coming.

Virtually everything in this great land is now perverted. Women wear men's clothing and have short hair. Many men have long hair and are not the head of the home anymore. Women assume men's roles and vice versa. The children do not know what is femininity and what is masculinity. Children are undisciplined and rebellious. The TV is their babysitter (with all the perversion from Hollywood and the networks) and so we now have an ungodly, perverted society that deserves God's judgment just as multitudes did in the past. Over the past several weeks I have seen many signs, decals and bumper stickers saying, "God bless America," but I have not seen even one that says, "God have mercy on America."

Do we deserve God's blessing for teaching our children that they evolved from apes instead of being created in the image of God, but forbidding the mention of Jesus Christ in the public schools and at government events? Do we deserve God's blessing for our perversion of men's and women's roles? Do we deserve God's blessing for the President compromising under the pressure of the perverts to allow federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research? Is there any reason why America should receive God's blessing? Or do we deserve His wrath and judgment like the people in Noah's day and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah?

In the aftermath of all that has taken place in this country, California, just a couple of days ago, passed a law that extends more rights to homosexuals cohabiting. On all of the currency of America is written "In God We Trust." In a report that I read of a nationwide broadcast on 10/15/2001, after being exposed to Anthrax, a major TV network newsman held up a prescription bottle and said, "In Cipro we trust." This is mockery and blasphemy of a holy and sovereign God. Do we deserve God's blessing or do we deserve His judgment?

But isn't this a Christian nation? No, and it never has been. (Please see the article titled Democracy---A Scriptural Perspective.) But aren't the Declaration of Independence and the U. S. Constitution Christian documents? No. They include some biblical principles, but nowhere in either document is Jesus Christ even mentioned.

An entire book could be written on the subject at hand, but enough has been said to clearly make the point. If you are not a truly born-again Christian, then what you should do is repent of your sins, ask God to forgive you of your sins and ask Jesus Christ to save you. To repent includes having a change of mind about sin. It is turning from everything that you know is sinful and turning to God. If you mean that with all your heart, not just your mind, then God will have mercy on you and save your soul from your sins and an eternal Lake of Fire.

If you are a true Christian, then what you should do in these perilous last days is make sure that there is no unconfessed sin in your life. Draw as close to Jesus as you can. Apply the New Testament to your life. Read the Bible and pray every morning before you start your day (and other times, too). There are many scriptural truths in this website that should be checked out to see if they are true according to the Scriptures and, if so, apply them to your life. Jesus said that in the last days many will fall away from the faith (Mt. 24:10). Power will be given to the Antichrist to overcome the saints (Daniel 12:7; Rev. 13:7). The only way you can survive (spiritually) when that time comes is to have a very close walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Many Christians will be martyred during the Great Tribulation (Rev. 7:9, 13-14). There will not be a pre-tribulation rapture as so many are teaching today. (Please see article titled Pre-Trib Rapture---Fact or Fable?) Share the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, which includes the need to repent, with as many as you can.

"When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it?" (Amos 3:6). God have mercy on America.
